An Eco-Friendly Breath

The Windmill Project allows young inventors to understand the relevance of clean energy

The “Windmill” invites young inventors to develop a practical understanding of renewable energy sources and their importance for sustainable development. Children explore, in a practical and fun way, concepts developed by many pioneers of science. This reflects the mission of inspiring future inventors to think outside the box and apply their knowledge in creative and innovative ways.

About Inspiring Inventors

Poul la Cour

Poul la Cour

1846-1908

He was a danish scientist and inventor. La Cour is especially recognised for his pioneering work in the field of wind energy, both through experimental research in aerodynamics and the practical implementation of wind power plants. He spent most of his life working at Askov Folk High School, where he developed the historical-genetic method of teaching science. Early in his life, he was an inventor in the field of telegraphy, working with multiplex telegraphy.

Concepts covered

Clean energy

  • Clean Energy: This is renewable, alternative and sustainable energy that does not produce waste and is therefore considered clean energy, with no harm to nature.

Wind energy and wind farm

  • Wind Energy: This is the use of the force of the wind to create movement and transform it into electricity. Wind turbines are strategically placed in windy areas, usually at higher altitudes. As the blades move, mechanical movement is generated. This movement creates kinetic energy, which is then transformed into electrical energy.
  • Wind Farm: This is an area, on land or at sea, where several wind turbines are grouped together to transform wind energy into electrical energy.

Why This Project?

The “Windmill” Project was created with three main goals:

  1. Understanding the importance of the concepts: Young inventors learn about principles related to ecology, as well as concepts linked to sustainable energy.
  2. Understanding the impact on society: While developing this project, children gain an understanding of the impact that clean energy has on our society today, as well as its importance for the future.
  3. Focusing on creativity and the inventive spirit: By taking part in this process, young inventors develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and teamwork.

By the end of the session, young inventors gain a new appreciation for the world of clean energy.

Together, let’s generate energy.

Challenges for you

Ask your young inventor what excited them most in the lessons — or try out the “Windmill” as a family!

For the more adventurous, how about sharing the impact of those decisions with us on social media?
