Let’s stretch creativity!

The Pinball project allows children to explore the fascinating world of physics

Young inventors will build one of the most famous games in the world!

The Pinball project enables children to learn important scientific concepts—once explored by pioneers of science—in a practical and enjoyable context. It encourages them to explore the world around them with an inventive mindset and reflects the mission of inspiring future inventors to think creativel

About Inspiring Inventors

Emmy Noether

Emmy Noether

1882-1935

She was a German mathematician, known for her fundamentally important contributions to the fields of theoretical physics and abstract algebra. She was considered by David Hilbert, Albert Einstein, Hermann Weyl and others to be the most important woman in the history of mathematics. She revolutionised theories of rings, fields and algebra. In physics, Noether’s theorem explains the fundamental connection between symmetry in physics and the laws of conservation

Concepts covered

Universal Law of Gravitation

  • Universal Law of Gravitation: The Universal Law of Gravitation was formulated by the physicist Isaac Newton. According to legend, an apple fell from a tree onto his head. But why did the apple fall? Newton realised that there must be a force pulling it downwards — the Earth’s gravitational force. In practice, the more massive an object is, the greater its gravitational attraction. That is why the apple is not significantly attracted towards us, but is attracted towards the Earth; and we are attracted to the Earth, and the Earth to the Sun. And the Sun to a black hole at the very centre of the Milky Way!

Speed and Acceleration

  • Speed and Acceleration: Speed is how fast something moves from one place to another. Acceleration happens when something starts moving faster or slower. Imagine you are in a car: if the car suddenly speeds up, you feel pushed back against the seat. That is acceleration! And do you know why you feel pushed against the seat? It is because your body naturally wants to continue doing what it was already doing — if it was at rest, it wants to stay at rest; if it was moving, it wants to keep moving. This is called the Principle of Inertia, or Newton’s First Law.

Why This Project?

The Pinball project was created with three main objectives:

  1. Understanding the importance of concepts: By building a pinball machine, young inventors gain a basic understanding of physics, engaging with concepts such as Newton’s First Law and the Earth’s gravitational force.
  2. Explaining present-day relevance: Helping young inventors understand how concepts such as speed, acceleration, and the law of gravitation apply to modern-day realities, such as satellites, GPS, the automotive industry, and aviation.
  3. Focus on creativity and an inventive mindset: By taking part in this process, children develop skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination.

At the end of the session, in addition to building a pinball machine, young inventors will also develop a new perspective on the world of physics.

Together, let’s accelerate imagination!

Challenges for you

Ask your young inventor what excited them most about the session, or challenge them to use the Pinball at home with the family!

For the boldest ones, why not share your experience with us, so we can share it on our social media?
