Reflecting the future

My Mirror project allows young inventors to explore the fascinating world of light reflection in a fun and practical way.

With this project, imagination is reflected in curiosity. By building My Mirror, young inventors use their creativity to uncover the mysteries of the future!

Through this experience, children have the opportunity to explore concepts related to light reflection, transparency, and even secret messages.

All of this takes place in an inspiring environment that highlights children’s inventive and creative spirit, encouraging teamwork, spontaneity, and curiosity.

AboutInspiring Inventors

Christiaan Huygens

Christiaan Huygens

1629-1695

He was a mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor from the Netherlands, considered a key figure in the Scientific Revolution. In the field of physics, Huygens made fundamental contributions to optics and mechanics, while as an astronomer, he studied Saturn’s rings and discovered its largest moon, Titan. As an engineer and inventor, he improved the design of telescopes. In optics, he is best known for his wave theory of light, which he described in his work Traité de la Lumière (1690). His theory of light was initially rejected in favour of Newton’s corpuscular theory until Augustin-Jean Fresnel adapted Huygens’ principle in 1821 to provide a complete explanation of the rectilinear propagation and diffraction effects of light. Today, this principle is known as the Huygens-Fresnel Principle.

Concepts Covered

Reflection of Light and Transparency

  • Reflection of Light:It refers to the change in the direction of light when it strikes a surface and reflects back in the direction it came from. This occurs on smooth and polished surfaces, such as mirrors, where the incident light is reflected in an orderly manner, allowing us to see our image when we look into the mirror.
  • Transparency: It refers to the ability of a material to allow light to pass through it without significant distortion. This can be observed in materials such as glass, water, and air, where light passes through them, allowing us to see objects on the other side clearly.

Secret Messages

  • Secret Messages: A historical method of concealing information, secret messages have evolved from ancient civilizations to modern digital encryption. Initially used for war strategies, they now serve everyday purposes, enabling discreet communication and private sharing. Today’s technology offers various tools, from encrypted texts to disappearing photos, keeping the fascination of uncovering hidden truths alive.

Why this project?

My Mirror project was created with three main objectives:

  1. Exploring the world of light reflection : In this project, young inventors will build a special mirror, learning how to manipulate light to create illusions, allowing them to see themselves… but also a hidden image.
  2. Understanding the future linked to these concepts: Through this experience, young inventors will discover how the concepts explored in My Mirro have played a crucial role in fields such as quantum computing, holography, astronomy, and biology.
  3. Encouraging Creativity and an Inventive Spirit : By participating in this process, young inventors develop essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and motor coordination.

At the end of the project, young inventors will have gained a deeper understanding of light reflection, celebrating their success by constructing their own mirrors. This experience highlights the clear connection between creativity and the future!

Together, let’s unveil the light of imagination!
